Airlines’ Baggage Handling Improved In 2023 (Source: Travel Weekly)
Airlines’ baggage handling improved in 2023, according to aviation technology company SITA.  Globally, airlines mishandled 6.9 bags per 1,000 last year, according to SITA’s 2024 Baggage IT Insights Report.  That’s down 9.2% from a mishandled rate of 7.6 per 1,000 in 2022, even though passenger traffic increased by approximately 30% in 2023.

Germany’s national carrier, Lufthansa, launched its first-ever service from Minnesota on June 4 — a year-round route that adds an important new global connection between Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) and the airline’s Frankfurt (FRA) hub in Germany.  Lufthansa becomes the 19th airline operating at MSP and the airport’s first new transatlantic carrier in more than four years. The new service launched just as summer travel season kicks off with high demand from MSP to European destinations.

TSA Marks Another Record Day As Travel Demand Continues (Source: CBS News)
The Transportation Security Administration screened more than 2.9 million passengers at airport checkpoints on June 14, making it the second busiest day recorded this year. Airlines for America’s (A4A) summer air travel forecast projected that 271 million passengers will travel across the globe this summer — up 6.3% from last summer.

Dulles International Airport outside Washington, D.C., gave reporters a tour of the construction zone that is slated to become a new $700 million, 14-gate concourse. Airport Manager Richard Golinowski said an extension will add more gates to the new concourse four years later.
