JetBlue Cuts Or Halts 24 Routes, Pulls Out Of 7 Cities – But Doubles Down On New England (Source: The Points Guy)
JetBlue is pausing or cutting service on two dozen routes and pulling seven cities off its route map entirely as part of its latest network shakeup.  The New York-based carrier, which has its sights set on returning to profitability, announced a slew of changes Wednesday.  JetBlue is adding seven new routes, mostly from airports in New England. And it’s bringing its Mint cabin to more domestic routes.

Southwest will implement assigned seats, ending the open-boarding policy that has been one of the airline’s defining features.  Southwest will also redesign its cabins to add extra-legroom seats, which will encompass approximately one-third of all seats.

Delta Agrees To Reimburse Alternative Travel As Cancellations Drop And Recovery Ramps Up (Source: USA Today)
For the first time since Friday’s CrowdStrike outage, Delta Air Lines’ operations seem to be more or less normal.  By noon ET on Wednesday, the airline posted just 47 cancellations and 399 delays, according to Flight Aware. That’s compared to 511 total cancellations on Tuesday and 1,160 on Monday. On Wednesday, American Airlines had more canceled flights than Delta. The airline also clarified and expanded its reimbursement guidelines for customers who were affected by the meltdown.

Sacramento Airport To Begin Renovations (Source: The Sacramento Bee)
Sacramento International Airport (SMF) in California’s capital will begin construction next month on a pedestrian walkway that is the first phase of a $1.3 billion renovation plan. The airport plans to add at least six new gates to Terminal B, an additional garage and new centers for car rental and ground transportation by 2028.

Portland International Airport’s new terminal features a vaulted wood ceiling, live plants and the return of carpeting that evokes nostalgia among locals. The Oregon airport plans to open the terminal Aug. 14.

Hotels

28-Story Hotel Debuts Near Chicago’s Magnificent Mile (Source: CoStar Group)
The 28-story Riu Plaza Chicago hotel, which began construction during the pandemic, has debuted near the Magnificent Mile, the city’s famous shopping district. The property includes 390 guestrooms, a gym, a restaurant and a bar on the 27th floor called the Rooftop, which features a glass balcony.
