U.K. Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) Requirement Begins January 8, 2025

Travelers entering the U.K. will soon need to apply for the electronic travel authorization (ETA) prior to entry.  The ETA costs £10 (about $12) and permits multiple journeys for two years or until the traveler’s passport expires, whichever is sooner.  The ETA is digitally linked to the traveler’s passport and allows for stays up to six months at a time.

The ETA is designed to enhance security through new technology and make the U.K. border more efficient.  The U.K. stressed that the ETA is “not a visa, it is a digital permission to travel.”

For travelers flying in or through the U.K., Travel One will include information regarding the ETA on their itinerary.
