New Entry Requirements For Non-EU Nationals Traveling To Europe

Beginning October 12, 2025, the European Union will gradually introduce its new Entry/Exit System (EES) at border crossing points.  When you arrive at a border crossing for the first time, Passport Control Officers will take a photo of your face and scan your fingerprints.  This information will be stored in a digital file and will allow subsequent boarder entries to only require a quick verification of your identity.

The new EES checks will happen at all entry points across the European Schengen region, which includes most of the EU, plus Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein.  Countries will introduce the different elements of the EES in phases until fully implemented by April 10, 2026.
