In the United States, legacy airlines operate hub-and-spoke networks, funneling passengers through centralized hubs to connect them between any two cities in their network with relative ease. In Europe, most legacy carriers will have a single major hub, through which almost every single one of their flights will pass. Examples of such hub facilities include British Airways’ principal hub at London Heathrow Airport (LHR) and Air France’s primary gateway at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG).

Apple AirTag Feature May Help Airlines Find Luggage (Source: CNN)
Travelers might soon find it easier to recover lost luggage as Apple plans to introduce a feature in iOS that allows third-party access to AirTag tracking, potentially enabling airline and airport staff to locate bags in real time. The feature, currently in beta, lets users share item locations for up to a week and works even if the recipient doesn’t have an Apple device.

The Metropolitan Knoxville Airport Authority hosted an event to break ground on a $186 million parking garage expansion, terminal roadway improvement plan and announce the launch of Flight Plan, an expansion and renovation program at McGhee Tyson Airport (TYS). The Flight Plan aims to enhance the passenger experience by adding gates and concessions, renovating restrooms and the security checkpoint as well as replacing escalators.

Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport (SDF) has started a $45 million security checkpoint expansion as part of the $500 million SDF Next Program. The project, set to finish in 2026, will increase screening lanes from six to 10 and is funded by federal and state contributions and passenger facility charges.
